| I am privileged with my wife, to live among the trees on the elevated slopes (8000 ft) of the incredible San Juan Mountains just outside Durango, Colorado. In this idyllic setting, I have discovered profound satisfaction in the creative process involved in producing objects of functional beauty from wood. My long-term appreciation for wood and its effective joinery even comes to expression in the hand cut, traditionally pegged timber framing of our home. Today, using nature’s gift of beautiful hardwoods, my personal goal is to craft furniture of a very high quality, that is aesthetically moving, physically comfortable, and structurally sound. Of particular interest to me, and the focus of this website, is the handmade rocking chair. From the woodworker’s perspective, the rocking chair is one of the more challenging pieces of furniture to effectively construct. And from the consumer’s perspective, I believe the rocking chair, if it is comfortably made, is one of the more important furniture pieces in our homes, including the dining table and bed. In our fast paced, driven lives, everyone deserves a really comfortable rocking chair in which to slow down, relax, and experience emotional rejuvenation. I would also like to express a debt of gratitude to Hal Taylor and James Cole, who encouraged me and willingly shared their basic chair plans. Hal Taylor provided plans and mentoring in producing the Wind Rocker; James Cole shared his templates for the Mountain Rocker. Thank you, gentlemen. I hope the chair designs I utilize and the level of craftsmanship for which I strive, meet with your satisfaction, and of course, promote a sense of desire within you to own one. I am looking forward to serving you. Award: Best of Show Woodworker’s V Exhibition, San Juan College, Northern New Mexico News Article: Durango Herald
